Code of Conduct

As advocates within the psychedelic community, we are committed to fostering safe and transformative psychedelic experiences. Safety is paramount for achieving depth, healing, and awakening, and it is a universal right for all participants in these spaces. This agreement aims to articulate expectations of consensual behaviour before embarking on a psychedelic cannabis experience, fostering the creation of the safest possible spaces for transformative journeys.

Encouraging Responsible Practices:

We strongly encourage friends and allies to engage in discussions about these guidelines before personal medicine experiences as a practice in safety and consent. Advocating for safety and intentional use within the psychedelic medicine community is crucial for harm reduction.

Commitment to Safety:

All members associated with Psychegetics, The Center for Medicinal Mindfulness and the Psychedelic Sitters School, including facilitators, educators, staff members, students, and community members, commit to adhering to this safety agreement. These guidelines are promoted in both private and professional settings as minimum standards. Professional members also adhere to additional code of conduct guidelines outlined in the Medicinal Mindfulness Safe Community Policy.

Evolving Harm Reduction Document:

This document serves as an evolving Psychedelic Harm Reduction guide and aims to support important conversations within the psychedelic community. It is shared by psychedelic medicine practitioners for psychedelic medicine practitioners to reduce potential harm, recognising it as a guide rather than an absolute guarantee for safety.

First and Foremost Agreement:

We affirm that any consent agreement is valid only in a sober state. Once a psychedelic medicine is taken, no changes to the agreement will occur until participants are sober again. Exceptions to this rule involve the right to decline something previously consented to, particularly regarding personal boundaries, as long as the change does not violate safety agreements or the boundaries of others.

Preparation and Support:

  • Completion of a safety questionnaire and truthful discussion of current psychological state before the experience.

  • Pre-experience intention setting, safety, and preparation support, as well as post-experience safety check-ins and integration support.

  • Disclosure of the full cost of professional services before the experience begins.

  • Availability of backup support and immediate professional assistance for significant emergencies.

  • Prohibition of unsafe or destructive behaviour towards oneself or others.

Confidentiality and Reporting:

  • Commitment to confidentiality, except in situations requiring intervention to prevent harm or where reporting is legally mandated.

  • Avoidance of "outing" someone for their psychedelic medicine use without explicit consent.

  • Acknowledgment that covering up inappropriate behaviour is never acceptable.

Consent and Physical Safety:

  • Respect for each other’s boundaries and commitment to safety requirements.

  • Designation of a specific location as the boundaries of the experience.

  • Open discussion about consensual touch and energy work before the medicine is taken.

  • Explicit agreement that touch is never sexual or related to any sexual “technique” in professional settings.

Psychedelic Medicine Safety:

  • Due to Australian laws, client will need to obtain a medical card from a prescribed doctor in use of the medicine

  • Use of clean, tested, accurately measured, and responsibly sourced medicines by the client.

  • Education about the neurological and physical effects, addictive qualities, and legality of the medicines used.

  • Personal responsibility for the safety of medicine use and adherence to safe frequency practices.

  • Prohibition of driving or engaging in any behaviour requiring sobriety until the medicine is out of the bodily system due to Australian law & regulations

Conflict Prevention and Resolution:

  • Mindfulness of projections and transference, with discussions around perceptions and factual assessments.

  • Compassionate, skilful, and mature engagement in conflict or disagreements.

  • Adherence to community consent agreements related to conflict resolution practices.

Professional Facilitator Standards:

  • Accurate disclosure of training, expertise, credentials, and fees.

  • Work within the scope of training and expertise, adhering to appropriate codes of ethics.

  • Compliance with an appropriate code of ethics and code of conduct.

  • Accountability to the community and ongoing support and guidance from mentors and peers.

This code of ethics is designed to provide a framework for responsible and ethical psychedelic cannabis experiences. Participants are encouraged to engage in open discussions, seek ongoing education, and prioritize safety within the psychedelic cannabis community.
